USENIX Program Schedule Loader for 3Com Palm devices

** Important **

If the battery runs down you will have problems. Always run on AC power. When the package
arrives, remove the machine and immediately connect it to AC power. If it sits for more
than a few days, even powered down, the battery will drain.

Instructions For Use

Plug the power supply in to AC power. Plug the supply in to the round connector on the back
of the computer.

If you have two Palmpilot hotsync cradles, plug the dual-cradle adapter cable in to the
connector on the back of the computer. The serial connector is behind a little door next to
the power connector. I have marked it with a penguin. Plug one cradle in to each of the
two connectors at the end of the dual-cradle adapter cable.

Open the lid and turn on power by pressing the power switch in the upper left corner above
the keyboard. I have marked it with a penguin. If all is well the screen will light up,
but you won't be able to see anything because it's broken.

The system is ready for immediate use, there is no delay and no need to log in as with
previous versions. Simply insert a Pilot in to the cradle and press the hotsync button. It
should take less than a minute to load the data. The computer will then go back and wait
for another Pilot to be inserted.

** If you have two cradles, you can use either one. But you must only use one at a time. **

When you are done for the day, simply close the lid. You can now disconnect the power and
cradle and put everything away. To bring it back up just open the lid and press the power
switch again.

In Case Something Goes Wrong: The system is running OpenBSD 2.6. You can log in as "usenix"
with no password. The root password is "usenix". This will be very challenging because the
display does not work. Your best bet may be to use a pin to hit the reset switch on the
bottom. If all goes well it should come back to life in about three minutes. Only try this
as a last resort.

If you have problems, call my cellphone at 734 905-2564.
